NJ Hospitals Worried About New Medicaid Legislature

June 2018 – Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald, D-Camden and Senate Budget and Appropriations Chairman Paul Sarlo, D-Bergen spearheaded a new bill that will limit “low acuity” hospital visits.

From $600, the bill will be significantly reduced to $160 per visit. This will limit ER visits for “minor” health issues such as fever and  sore throats.

However, NJ hospitals are saying they are just doing the right thing. Only a few doctors are accepting Medicaid payments. NJ hospitals are just bridging the gap.

According to Neil Eicher, vice-president of the New Jersey Hospital Association, “Hospitals should not be penalized for doing the right thing by providing quality care to patients who show up at our doors because insurance companies have failed to provide a network of providers available to these patients,”
